The National Latino and Fatherhood and Family Institute is pleased to announce the launching of the National Boys and Men of Color Institute (NBMCI).  NBMCI will bring together leading elders, experts, organizations and community based agencies that have a vested interest in improving the lives of boys and men of color as a way to improve the well-being and health of communities. Guided by Jerry Tello, a leading expert in the field.

NBMCI

HOW WE DO THIS:


❖   The development of a council of expert advisors who are respected for their wisdom as it relates to boys and men of color;


❖ The development of a network of experts on the issues facing boys and men of color available to provide cultural and resiliency based training, technical assistance, capacity building and advisement related to policy and systemic transformation;


❖The development of Statewide and local Elders of Color Networks to provide leadership, mentorship, advocacy and healing support on related issues to boys and men of color in their respective communities;


❖ The dissemination of trauma and healing informed theoretical and practice-based frameworks that can serve as the basis for improved service to boys and men of color;


❖ The collection of "best practice" and community evidenced based models of serving men and boys of color that incorporate cultural assets of boys and men of color, their families and communities;


❖ The development of a repository of materials and resources related to men and boys of color;


❖ The development of a funding base structure to support this effort and other statewide and local efforts.



WHY WE DO THIS:
 
To create a common voice that advocates for:


❖  Improved physical and mental health outcomes and the emotional-spiritual well being for boys, young men and men;


❖  Improved educational and workforce outcomes for boys and men of color;


❖  The development of a unified stance against all forms of abuse and oppressive systems, policies and organizations in reference to men and boys of color within their families and communities;


❖  Addressing the inequity of positive opportunities that boys and men of color confront in communities throughout the United States;


❖  A strong unified voice against all forms of violence (familial, community, systemic);


❖  A culturally based, trauma informed, and healing informed approach to address the issues facing boys and men of color;


❖  Leveraging of new resources to support these goals from governmental and non-governmental organizations; and


❖  The development of positive culturally proficient fatherhood and male involvement policies and programs that build on the cultural strengths of men and boys of color.
